Peggy Lee was born in Jamestown, ND, and first sang professionally over KOVC radio in Valley City, ND in 1936. She later had her own 15-minute Saturday radio show sponsored by a local restaurant that paid her salary in food. -- Wikipedia (I include this because I lived in Valley City for 18 years and had friends who knew Peggy Lee when she lived there.)
